At Around The Horn Baseball Academy, we strive to help young athletes reach their full potential both on and off the field. Our belief is that it is not just about winning, but about effort, attitude, and toughness.

 

We focus on developing a family atmosphere, where teammates and coaches have the same goal in mind: to put the athlete first and help them achieve their goals. We strive to create an environment where athletes can learn the necessary skills to become successful in the game of baseball and in life.

We focus on fundamentals, while also providing our athletes with the motivation and confidence they need to succeed in the game of baseball and beyond. We believe that hard work and dedication are the keys to success and provide our athletes with the guidance and support they need to reach their goals. Meet Our Coaches

Mike "Sarge"
O'Halloran

Owner

Mike “Sarge” O’Halloran, has over a decade of coaching experience and his passion for the game is unparalleled.

 

He began his journey as a volunteer assistant for his local town team and from there his love for the game and coaching only grew. While getting duel degrees from Rutgers University he traveled the country with Ripken Baseball, assisting in over 50 clinics nationally.

 

Sarge is the Rutgers Prep Middle School Head Coach.  Sarge’s enthusiasm for baseball is contagious and he has the knowledge and experience to help take your game to the next level. Mike strives to create an atmosphere of growth and learning.

Dave "Gator" Hameier

Co-Founder

Dave Hameier, has been a High School coach at Rutgers Prep for over a decade.

 

He is heavily involved at Franklin Little League, and has a ton of knowledge that he can share with the students.

 

Davey strives to give each player the skills, tools, and motivation to take their game to the next level.

Larry "Santo" Santowasso

Senior Adviser

Larry "Santo" Santowasso is a legendary figure in the world of high school baseball. With nearly 30 years of experience as the head coach at Rutgers Prep, his achievements are nothing short of remarkable:

  • NJSCA Hall of Fame (2018): Inducted into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association (NJSCA) Hall of Fame in 2018, Santowasso's coaching legacy is etched in history.

  • NFHS Coach of the Year (2016-2017): In 2016-2017, Santowasso was named the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coach of the Year, a prestigious honor that speaks volumes about his coaching prowess.

  • 300 Wins: With an impressive 300 wins under his belt, Santowasso's consistency and excellence are undeniable.

  • 2013 State Champion: A crowning moment in his career came in 2013 when Santowasso led his team to a State Championship.

  • Somerset County Champion (2017 & 2023): Santowasso's teams also clinched the Somerset County Champion title in 2017 and 2023, showcasing his enduring success.

  • Five-time NJISAA Prep B Champion: Santowasso's coaching prowess is evident in his five NJISAA (New Jersey Independent Schools Athletic Association) Prep B Championships.
